Kindness is a gentle word
That comes from seasoned speech
From humbled hearts to ones in pain
A tender touch to each.
It is so rare to find someone
Who kindly speaks to me
Perceiving anguish not yet seen
Responding tenderly.
When eye-to-eye you feel my grief
And view my crimson shame
You sense I wish to disappear
And gently speak my name.
My eyes meet yours and then I know
I'm loved, accepted, heard.
My heart in torment feels so safe
With just your one kind word.
